When pork ends up in the dog bowl, many dog owners become worried. But is this worry of this meat actually justified—or is it just a stubborn myth?
The origin of the myth
The concern stems from a worm known as Trichinella. But first, the most important all-clear: This worm can only occur in RAW meat. As soon as the meat is fully cooked, there is no risk whatsoever. Heat reliably destroys the parasites.
Important: Not all pork is created equal
Human foods like ham or bacon should be fed with caution and only in small amounts. Their extremely high fat and salt content can cause pancreatitis. That’s why at Butternut Box, we exclusively use high-quality, minimally processed muscle meat, heart, and liver — with zero added salt, nitrates, or preservatives.
What about antibiotics?
Strict laws apply in the EU: antibiotics can never be fed preventatively. If an animal needs medical treatment, mandatory withdrawal periods apply. The meat can only be processed after the active substances have been completely broken down. Rigorous testing guarantees zero residues in the bowl.
