What is the Refer A Friend scheme?

The Refer A Friend scheme allows existing Butternut Box customers to share unique codes with their friends to enable their friends to claim a discount on their first box. In return, the referring Butternut Box customer will also receive a discount applied to their account.

How does it work? 

In your account you’ll find your unique referral code. You can share this with your friends.

Your friends can then use your unique referral code when ordering their first box to receive a discount off their first box.

Once their first order is complete, a discount will be applied to your account for use on your next box. Because this scheme runs all the time, the exact amount of discount you and your friend are eligible for may vary over time. The discount applicable at any time will be shown on your account alongside your unique referral code.

The discounts you receive are stackable. If, for example, you are offered a 50% discount on your next box for referring a friend, and you successfully refer two friends, you’ll receive two 50% discounts, which will be stacked so that you’ll get a 100% discount on your next box.

Is there a limit to how much referral discount I can receive?

The maximum value you can save through use of your discount in a calendar year is £250 (in the United Kingdom) or EUR 250 (in the Republic of Ireland).

Once you reach the maximum, you can continue to refer friends, but you won’t have any further discount applied to your account that calendar year. 

Are there any restrictions?

A successful referral will only occur if your friend who orders a box using your unique referral code is not and has not been a Butternut Box customer. The way we’ll determine whether someone is or has been a Butternut Box customer may include whether they already have an account with us, whether they have already purchased products from us, whether their credit or debit card has previously been used on our site, and whether their delivery address or cardholder address has previously been used on our site. 

We appreciate you sharing your code far and wide! But if we suspect you are gaming the offer (for example paying for advertising to promote your unique referral code) then we reserve the right not to apply the discount to your account and not to honour the discount for your friend(s). If we had to do this we would contact you to let you know. We can also stop applying the discount to your account and honouring the discount for your friend(s) if we suspect any fraudulent, abusive or suspicious behaviour. 

I’ve been referred

Set up an account at Butternutbox.com, order your first box and add your friend’s unique referral code in the ‘Discount Code’ section of our checkout page. The discount will be automatically applied to your first box. The amount of discount you will receive will be based on your friend’s unique referral code.

Once your first box is ordered, your friend will have a discount applied to their account that they can use on their next box. 

The legal bits

We may run limited time offers where you can earn different rewards or amounts of credit after making a successful referral. If this applies, we’ll let you know in your account and/or via email. You’ll always be able to check whether a limited promotion applies in your account. These terms and any terms regarding promotions in our terms and conditions will apply to those limited time offers. 

Discounts for referred (new) customers will not be redeemable where any other discounts or offers have been applied - only one discount can apply at a time. 

Discounts can’t be exchanged or transferred for anything else and we can replace them with something else at any time. 

This offer starts on 15 January 2025. It doesn’t have an end date at the moment, but we can change this at any time. If we do this, we’ll change these terms to include the end date. 

Our decision regarding any aspect of the promotion is final and binding. If we suspect any fraud or breach of these terms, we can remove credit, refuse to apply credit or to honour the discount (as applicable). 

Any personal data supplied during the course of this referral scheme will be processed in accordance with our privacy policy. English law applies to this referral scheme. Anyone who enters it submits to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

These terms apply in addition to the general terms relating to promotions in our terms and conditions. If there is any overlap between these terms and our general terms and conditions, these terms will apply. If you take part in our Refer A Friend scheme, we assume you’ve read and agree to these terms and our general terms and conditions that apply.
