A long, long time ago...

... a businessman decided to sell “food” for dogs. Only it wasn’t really food. It was a formula.

Real food, not formulas

No nasties

Step 1

Source our ingredients

Each ingredient is carefully chosen to improve your dog's health. We only source from trusted suppliers who know their onions. (Or peas, as dogs can’t eat onions).

Fresh ingredients
Hands slicing cooked chicken on a wooden cutting board surrounded by carrots, peas, sweet potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, and spinach.

Step 2

Gently cook at 90°

We cook low and slow - no harsh temperatures or high pressure here. This removes bad bacteria from raw meat, but keep all the nutrients and flavour.

Step 3

Finally, freeze for freshness

Our food doesn’t sit on a shelf or use anything artificial to stay fresh. We simply freeze like you would at home, so it stays as fresh as the moment it’s cooked.

Their choice is yours. Make it fresh.

Dogs can’t read. Or shop for food. Or hula hoop. (Though admittedly that last one is irrelevant here.) So it’s down to us to do our best by them, and feed how we’d like to be fed.

FAQs

Human-quality meat and vegetables, gently cooked to create simple, tasty, complete meals. All created with the right balance of vitamins and minerals for dogs of every age.

We take the best quality ingredients that we can find, gently cook them at 90 degrees, and quickly freeze them so that we can lock in the freshness without relying on any nasty preservatives.

To get started, you'll need to create an account. This is what you will use to manage your subscription moving forward. We'll ask you some questions about your dog (or dogs) then recommend a bespoke plan for them. You can choose which of our recipes you would like to receive and we will deliver them in convenient portions direct to your door.

Butternut Box is Fresh dog food, which means it isn't excessively processed like wet or dry food. Instead, we use whole, human-quality ingredients you can see and say. Our meals are gently cooked at 90°C to lock in the nutrients, then frozen ready to serve from the fridge. Finally, each recipe is taste-tested by us to make sure it's the best it can be. Good enough for us, good enough for them.

Yes, all Butternut Box meals are complete and balanced. We actually go one step further, as they’re also highly digestible, which means the good stuff in our food is more easily absorbed, and dogs get more nutrients with every bite. And more nutrients on the inside means more benefits on the outside.

When we say human-quality ingredients, we mean ingredients that have been sourced from the human food supply chain. In other words, ingredients like chicken, beef, carrots or peas that are of such high quality, they can be (and are) used for our own human food. Once they're inside our Kitchens, they can no longer be used for human food, but they can always be easily traced back to their origins and retain their quality from the moment they're sourced to when they're served. This is unlike the ingredients used in many kibble or wet foods, which are often difficult to trace and not fit for human consumption.
