When choosing food for your dog, it helps to know exactly what’s going into their bowl.

If you’re looking for a grain-free option, you’ll be pleased to know that most of the Butternut Box menu is grain-free. And because every recipe has its ingredients listed clearly, you can choose the meals that suit your dog best.

How Butternut Box Recipe Selection Works

We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all diet. Dogs have different needs, preferences and opinions about dinner. Mostly opinions.

That’s why we’ve created a varied menu of fresh recipes, so you can choose the meals that work best for your dog. When you build or update your box, you can select individual recipes based on their ingredients.

Our Grain-Free Menu Selection

If you’d prefer to avoid grains, we have ten different grain-free recipes to choose from, such as:

  • Chicken You Out

  • Beef It Up

  • Gobble Gobble Turkey

  • Pork This Way

  • Wham Bam Lamb

  • Salom To Love

These recipes use ingredients such as sweet potatoes and lentils as the sources of carbohydrate.

Our Grain-Inclusive Menu Selection

We also offer two recipes that contain grains, Pork of the Town and Tuck in Chicken. These options contain pearl barley and quinoa.

This means you can create a box made entirely from grain-free recipes, or mix and match grain-free and grain-inclusive meals to find the combination your dog enjoys most.

Which Grains Do We Exclude From Our Recipes?

We’re upfront about what goes into our food. You’ll find the exact percentage of every ingredient on our labels, so there’s no need to play detective at dinnertime.

Our recipes don’t contain:

  • Wheat

  • Corn

  • Rye

  • Soy

  • Maize

  • Sorghum

  • Amaranth

  • Buckwheat

Our 10-year track record of trusted preparation

The ingredients matter. So does what happens to them next.

Our recipes are developed with input from veterinary specialists and independent animal nutritionists, and formulated to meet FEDIAF’s nutritional requirements for complete and balanced dog food.

We prepare our meals ourselves in our own specialist kitchens, gently cooking them at 90°C. Our kitchens hold BRCGS AA+ food-safety accreditation, supporting the high standards we set for our food and processes.

Our safety checks include:

Rigorous separation

Our kitchens use strict zoning procedures to help keep raw and cooked ingredients separate and reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

Batch verification

Production batches are checked and tested before they’re approved for delivery. This includes quality checks and analysis by independent, third-party laboratories.

Complete traceability

We keep detailed records throughout the process, helping us trace each delivery from its supplier through to your doorstep.

We’ve now served more than 315 million meals to over 400,000 dogs across Europe. By keeping our ingredients clear, our recipe choices flexible and our processes carefully controlled, we make it easier to choose the right food for your dog.

Even if they’re convinced the right choice is always the one they had yesterday.
